Block paving re-sanded with fresh kiln dried sand and sealed, to lock the joints and help keep weeds and stains at bay.
The sand between paving blocks does an important job. It locks the blocks together so they do not shift, and it gives weeds less room to take hold. Cleaning a drive takes some of that sand out, and over time it washes away anyway. Re-sanding puts it back, and sealing over the top helps hold it in place and protects the blocks from staining.
Block paving is held together by friction between the blocks, and the jointing sand is what creates it. When the joints empty, blocks start to rock and shift, edges chip, and weeds find an easy home. Topping the joints back up with dry sand keeps the whole surface tight.
A paving sealer soaks into the surface of the blocks and the sand. It helps bind the joints, makes it harder for weeds to root and makes spills such as oil easier to deal with. Some sealers also bring out the colour of the blocks.
Clean first, let the surface dry, sand the joints, then seal. Sealing a damp or dirty drive traps the problem underneath, so dry weather and good timing matter as much as the materials.

The blocks and joints need to be completely dry first, which can mean waiting for a run of dry weather. Sealing a damp drive can leave a cloudy finish.
It makes it much harder for weeds to establish in the joints, but no sealer can stop every seed that lands on the surface. A sealed drive is far easier to keep tidy.
Not straight after sealing. The sealer needs time to cure, and we will tell you when it is safe to use the drive again.
Yes. Block paving should be cleaned and fully dried before re-sanding and sealing, so the two jobs are usually booked together.
